Added immunity – How the WALTHAM Centre helps us protect him

Boosting immunity through advanced nutrition.

Over the years, the researchers at the WALTHAM Centre for Pet Nutrition have made breakthrough discoveries in how particular nutrients can boost a dog’s immunity to medical and physical problems.

Antioxidants for puppies and older dogs.

Research carried out at WALTHAM has shown that puppies have a stronger and healthier immune system if fed additional antioxidants. So our puppy foods now have high levels of antioxidants to provide protection when they need it most. Similar research has demonstrated that older dogs benefit from additional antioxidants to help protect them against age-related illnesses and so some Senior products also benefit from high levels of antioxidants.

Preventing the risk of kidney problems.

Kidney problems are common among older dogs. Fortunately, we’ve found that the risk of kidney damage can be reduced by controlling the dietary phosphorus levels – as we’ve done in our Senior products.

Keeping older dogs bounding along

Older dogs often develop joint health problems, with certain breeds, such as Labrador retrievers, German shepherds and even dachshunds being particularly prone. After investigating the potential benefits of green lipped mussels, WALTHAM researchers were able to develop our Pedigree™ Jointcare treats. Daily feeding has been shown to bring back dogs’ natural bounce within six weeks.

Reducing oral problems.

Work at WALTHAM has led to the development of a number of products to help prevent oral health problems in dogs, such as Pedigree™ Dentastix. Both these products have been designed with support from WALTHAM and our studies have demonstrated that daily feeding of either of these products will reduce the incidence of plaque and tartar.
